It’s nights like these when I feel like I should’ve gone into computers. Oh, but I wanted to write, make movies, tell stories! Well, where the hell did I get the idea that I could write? I think to myself. In William Zinsser’s book On Writing Well, Zinsser says to be confident in your words and express yourself. Ha, what a load of hooey! I’m not cut out for that.

“But Kyle,” my self-confidence says, “you have interesting thoughts and opinions all the time! You say things and people take notice!”

“So what?” shouts my self-doubt. “As soon as he sits in front of a keyboard, all of that intelligence and wit dries up!”

“But isn’t he writing now?”

“Oh…shut up!”

Maybe you’re right, Self-confidence. Maybe I can write, even if it is about how I can’t.
